A pregnant woman was tackled to the ground, a 61-year-old man kicked in the head, and another woman assaulted at Wentworth Falls on Saturday afternoon, October 7.
Police allege a 20-year-old Pymble man who had taken two tablets of the drug LSD assaulted the victims at about 2.30pm in the carpark of Renae’s Arcade.
“Police searched the offender's nearby vehicle and located a small amount of cannabis and equipment for administering drugs,” said Blue Mountains Police Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer.
The 28-year-old pregnant woman sustained grazes and bruising to her head and shoulder, he said.
The man was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, three counts of common assault, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing equipment for administering prohibited drugs. He is due to appear before Katoomba Local Court on October 30.
Car accident
A single vehicle accident on the highway at Faulconbridge caused significant delays on Tuesday, October 10. The accident occurred about 7.30am at Clifton Ave. The male driver in his 20s did not require transportation to hospital.
Flag removal
A group of young people attempted to steal the Australian flag at Mt Victoria Memorial Park, police allege.
“The offenders cut the rope which was holding the flag and were attempting to remove the flag when they were disturbed by a passer by,” Chief Insp Almer said.
The incident occurred between 8-9pm on October 2. Anyone with information is urged to contact Katoomba Police Station on 4782 8199.
Drug bust
Two Sydney men have appeared in court on drugs charges after police allegedly found 270 cannabis plants in a hydroponics set-up at a Blaxland home on October 3.
Police also allegedly found a further 242 cannabis plants grown by the same men at a Blacktown property. The total street value of the plants is estimated at $1.75 million.
A 52-year-old Smithfield man and a 37-year-old Canley Vale man were charged with two counts of cultivating a large commercial quantity of cannabis plants, two counts of enhanced indoor cultivation for commercial purposes, and two counts of consuming electricity without authority and possessing a prohibited drug.
The men face court again on December 8.
Guns
There were 112 firearms surrendered in the Mountains during the national firearms amnesty which ended on September 30. Police said 55 rifles, 28 air rifles, 16 shotguns and 2 sub-machine guns were handed in.
