The Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre has an exciting program planned for the Mid Mountains Festival at Lawson on Saturday, November 18.
“The centre works with a number of community groups throughout the year and this celebration is a showcase of the vibrant and inclusive Mid-Mountains spirit,” said centre community development worker, Danielle Wilding Forbes.
From 10am-4pm the centre in Lawson invites the community to share in the multitude of happenings on offer at this year’s festival.
The main performances will be staged in the Mavis Wood Hall with the band Bonniedoon performing as the main attraction in the middle of the day. Lead singer Bonnie Coady, entertainer by night and teacher by day, has a fan base of children from Lawson Primary School looking forward to seeing their teacher perform in the much-loved local band.
Local Elder Aunty Jacinta Tobin will open the day with a Welcome to Country at 10am. Up next will be Blue Mountains Youth Band (MYB), the youth band division of Blue Mountains Concert Band. Players come from the local community and are aged between 11 to 19 years. Rehearsing every Tuesday afternoon in Glenbrook and playing at community events throughout the year, the group is an amazing training ground for young musicians.
Other attractions on the day include children’s activities, food stalls, craft, face painting and circus skills.
“It’s volunteers and local community groups that make this event happen on the day,” said Ms Wilding-Forbes.
“The Hazelbrook Association, RSPCA, Blue Mountains Pipe Band, BMCC Library, Korowal School, Blue Mountains Steiner School, Springwood High School, Blue Mountains Woodworking Group are just some of the groups represented at this year’s event.
“Blue Mountains Folk will also contribute to The Mid Mountains Festival with a great local line-up of musicians in the Lawson pub between 2-5pm.
“Century 21 Hazelbrook have also jumped on board for the fourth year in a row as sponsor.”
