The Penrith Symphony Orchestra and Penrith City Choir will present a gala Christmas concert on Sunday, December 3 at 3pm at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.

It will include a delicious selection of music for the festive season, including Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, traditional and Australian carols and popular Christmas songs.

Artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra, Paul Terracini, will lead the orchestra and choir and act as master of ceremonies. Terracini will also direct a special performance by the Penrith Strings, a youth strings ensemble formed in partnership between Penrith Symphony Orchestra, the Joan and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Lucy McAlary will direct the chorus of more than 100 voices, which combines Penrith City Choir with two Blue Mountains choirs, Academy Singers and Warrimoo Chorale, as well as members of Penrith City Youth and Children’s Choirs.  Their combined forces highlighted in a performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

Local singer/songwriter Brittanie Shipway appears as special guest artist for this concert. A graduate of NIDA, Shipway is a professional performer specialising in musical theatre, cabaret and corporate entertainment. She has appeared on Channel 9 in a variety of children’s shows, and was a finalist on The Voice. Locally, Shipway has appeared in numerous musicals for the Blue Mountains Musical Society and as Eponine in Les Misérables at the Riverside Theatre in 2012. Brittanie will present a selection of ever-popular Christmas tunes, including White Christmas.
