Next year’s edition of the Wild Blue Mountains Calendar features an image on the cover that was nearly a winner. The clouds parted, Gangerang Range was awarded second prize in the 2017 Blackheath Art Prize.
Judge, Lee-Anne Hall from Penrith Regional Gallery, said the image was “both technically brilliant and glorious…the artist has waited to capture a moment in time”.
Calendar photographer Ian Brown was happy that the judge recognised the value of realistic nature photography alongside other forms of visual art.
“Many people think that you just point a camera at the world, but making powerful images takes much more than that. Good photography demands complex creative processes like any other art,” said Mr Brown.
The calendar’s monthly images range from the Bindook Highlands to Capertee Gorge, taking in waterfalls, canyons, forests and dramatic vistas.
The calendar is available from selected local stores and direct from Windy Cliff Press.
