Welcome Santa and his elf as they end their journey from the North Pole on the heritage listed 125-year-old Sydney steam tram at the Valley Heights Rail Museum on the weekend of December 9-10.

Arriving on the train at 11am and 2pm, Santa will greet the children and be on hand with a free gift for kids and plenty of personal photo opportunities.

All the rail museum’s great attractions and activities will be available on the day, with rides on the steam tram included in the normal admission fees.

A jumping castle will also be available on the weekend, plus face painting on Sunday to support the Girl Guides.

The museum opens from 10am until 4pm, with last rides at 3.30pm. There is no need to book but some activities, such as the tram and jumping castle, may be affected by adverse weather conditions or other operational factors.

Santa’s arrival follows the museum hosting their first “Dracular spectacular” event in October for Halloween.

There was a Spooky Express ride, the Tram of Terrors and competitions like the Wacky Witch Hunt and Silly Stations.

Museum publicity manager Keith Ward said the genesis for the event began in October last year when he and his wife Eileen visited Britain – taking in 16 heritage railways in 30 days. Arriving in London they “were taken with the way Halloween had become so popular” and felt their museum was an ideal venue for a similar event.
