A teenager has been charged with negligent and dangerous driving after a car crash in Sydney's south-west on New Year's Day left one teenage girl dead and another fighting for life.
Emergency services were called to Brunker Road in Yagoona about 12.15am on Monday after a car carrying three people crashed into a parked ute, police said.
Emergency services worked to free the trapped teens, but the front seat passenger, a 17-year-old girl, died at the scene.

The back-seat passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to Liverpool Hospital with multiple facial fractures and a head injury. She remains in hospital in a critical condition.
The 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle was also taken to Liverpool Hospital with a broken leg and a shoulder injury.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit launched an investigation into the crash. Just before 4pm on Monday they went to the hospital and charged the man over the crash.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The teen remains under police guard, and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday via a bedside court hearing.
