The Great Western Highway has now been re-opened following a diesel spill on Thursday morning.
The spill was caused by an accident between a truck and car just outside Katoomba at about 5.15am.
The incident led to the highway being closed off for more than two hours.
At about 7.30am, the highway was partially re-opened under stop/slow traffic conditions while the vehicles were salvaged.
The site has now been cleared and all lanes of the Greater Western Highway have re-opened.
However, Transport Management Centre spokeswoman Kristen Forbes advised motorists to allow extra travel time as the heavy traffic slowly eased.
Ms Forbes said bus routes 698 and 698V had been cancelled due to the incident.

The Great Western Highway has now re-opened under stop/slow traffic conditions on Thursday morning.
Earlier, the highway was closed in both directions due to a diesel spill just outside Katoomba.
The spill was caused by a truck and car that occurred near Explorers Road at about 5.15am.
Transport Management Centre spokeswoman Melissa Hunter said the highway had now re-opened under alternating traffic conditions.
Ms Hunter said motorists were able to pass the incident, with traffic taking turns in the westbound lane.
‘”Traffic is heavy in both directions so motorists should allow plenty of additional travel time,” she said..
Emergency services and traffic crew personnel remain on site as the clean-up operation and vehicle recovery continues.

Blue Mountains motorists heading to work may be affected on Thursday morning.
The Great Western Highway has been closed in both directions indefinitely due to a diesel spill.
The spill was caused by a truck and car accident that occurred near Explorers Road, just outside Katoomba.
The accident occurred at about 5.15am on January 18.
Transport Management Centre spokeswoman Melissa Hunter said no diversions were in place on the highway.
As a result, Ms Hunter said traffic in both directions were being held on the site.
“Motorists can consider using Bell Line of Road instead,” she said.
Emergency services and traffic crew personnel remain on site.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible as there are heavy traffic conditions.
Allow extra travel time if you must travel on the highway on Thursday morning.
Ms Hunter said the highway was expected to “remain closed for some time”.
