Damien Leith has many strings to his bow – acclaimed singer-songwriter, author, playwright. It has been almost 12 years since he smashed into the national consciousness on television talent program Australian Idol, and since then he hasn’t stopped working. He has eight albums and two novels under his belt, and has toured the width and breadth of Australia and beyond.
He plays the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub on Saturday, March 17.
There is no doubt Leith has some interesting experiences under his belt. Add to that an extensive back catalogue of original material and his own interpretations of classic songs, and An Evening With Damien Leith is set to be an evening to remember for music fans. After touring extensively – with a full band, a stage show, and solo – there are always requests for more intimate concerts, where the audience really get to know Leith. So it was a natural progression to make these smaller shows.
“I love the feeling being up close and personal,” he said. “I thought a show like this was a great opportunity for audiences to take a trip down memory lane, as I sing a collection of songs spanning the past 11-plus years of my career. I’ll share stories, tell some jokes, take requests and – what I’m most excited about – I’ll also get to share some new works.”
“I’ll play both piano and guitar and chat about how certain songs came about, or some of the funny things that have happened since Australian Idol,” he says. “The audiences will get to hear all their favourites and so much more. Performing solo has always been a favourite of mine as it is how I started out. I get to chat, change up the set, bounce of the energy of the audience and really get in to the raw emotion of the songs.”
An Evening with Damien Leith on March 17 at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now at www.bluemountainstheatreandhub.com.au or the box office in Macquarie Road, Springwood.
