Two young men from Sydney were rescued from Claustral Canyon near Mt Tomah on Wednesday afternoon.
The 18-year-olds, one from Pymble and the other from Chatswood, had run out of water and were lost, but managed to make their way to the top of a ridge where they were able to call 000, police said.
The duo were winched out of the area to a Polair helicopter, and flown to an oval at Mt Victoria where they were handed to Police Rescue officers who returned them to their car on Bells Line of Road.
Blue Mountains Police have reminded everyone of the ‘Think Before you Trek’ safety initiative between the NSW police force and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Emergency locator beacons are available to borrow from the National Parks and Wildlife Service and both Springwood and Katoomba police stations for free.
