Nepal is still recovering from the effects and devastation of the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015 and the severe flooding of 2017. Natural disasters have a major impact on any country but the effect and devastation is magnified tenfold when inflicted on a third world country that has inadequate resources and infrastructure to deal adequately with natural catastrophes.
Rotary International and individual Rotary clubs from Australia and around the world have recognised the needs of countries that encounter natural disasters and embark on projects in conjunction with local organisations to provide help to enable the people to recover.
Nepal has benefitted from these projects and speaking from the experience of our Rotary Club of Penrith Valley, which has been involved with Nepalese Projects over several years, there is a genuine love for the Nepalese people and a strong desire to make a difference and improve conditions in Nepal.
A number of our members have visited Nepal to assist in projects and our most recent project was in January 2017. This project involved a programme for women and disabled persons to learn sewing and complete a tailoring course. Our club provided twenty five new sewing machines and helped to fund the training.
The help given was received with such enthusiasm and humility by the women and disabled people that all those involved became strong advocates for Nepal and are determined to keep the people of Nepal in the forefront of our minds so as to ensure they are not forgotten.
This year our Club is supporting The Healthy Community Nepal Foundation to provide health services to over 1,000 children between the ages of 4 to 16 years of age at schools in Nepal by carrying out health screening, education, training in first aid, emergency treatment, management of infection control and mental health services.
We need support and the way to do that is to come to our Nepalese concert on March 10 at Blue Mountains Theatre, 6.30 for a 7.15pm start. Complimentary momos on arrival.
It will be a fun night for everyone to hear and enjoy the Musicians who we have brought out from Nepal specifically for this event. It is a professional production in a top class venue which will not only have you entertained but also provide assistance to Nepal for this important health project,
Tickets ($65/$50) can be purchased from the box office, on 4723 5050 or at www.bluemountainstheatre.com.
