TAFE NSW Blue Mountains has a range of exciting, hands-on short courses in digital photography, all you need is a digital SLR (DSLR) camera and you are ready to enrol.
TAFE NSW Blue Mountains, Head Teacher of Photography, Craig Daalmeijer-Power said: “The digital photography course is a fun way to bring out your creative side and to meet like-minded amateur photographers.
“Students learn in practical environment that ensures they gain the knowledge and ability to take great photos. If they want to pursue photography as a career path then there are a range of courses they can do so they can take that next step and become job ready.
“Gone are the days of waiting till you picked your photos up from the local chemist to see whether or not you’d taken any decent shots. With digital technology, you can see the images you have taken in a matter of seconds. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to capture a special moment in time and get the instant gratification of seeing it on the screen.”
Aside from the joy of being able to see photos instantly, the benefits of digital photography are numerous. By using a DSLR, students will improve the quality of their photos, as well as have the ability to capture a wider variety of environments, including those hard-to-get night shots. Digital photography also allows for more photo time as a camera battery will last much longer than a smartphone battery.
The 12-week short course explores the creative and practical aspects of photography, and covers topics such as aperture, shutter, visualisation strategies and creative thinking. In addition to learning about cameras, their use and handling, students will learn how to navigate and edit photos using Adobe Photoshop and how a dark room works. The course covers shoot planning, uploading images and repairing common problems that may occur in the digital environment
