Update 11.45am Friday: Matt Wilson will compete in the 100m breaststroke semi-finals from 8.30pm on Friday night after qualifying fourth fastest on Friday morning. At 1:00:29, Wilson tied for fourth fastest qualification with fellow Australian Jake Packard.
Springwood swimmer Matt Wilson won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast on Thursday night.
Wilson finished third in a time of 2:08.64 behind Scotland’s Ross Murdoch in second place (2:08.32) and England’s James Wilby who won gold in 2:08.05.
Wilson’s bronze medal swim was just outside his personal best time of 2:08.31 at the Australian Swimming Trials on February 28.
Murdoch was the men’s 200m breaststroke defending Commonwealth Games champion but was overtaken in the final 50m by the English swimmer.
