Springwood swimmer Matt Wilson will return home with not one, but two Commonwealth Games medals in his pocket.
The 19-year-old helped the men’s 4x100m medley relay team to gold on Tuesday night.
Wilson swam in the medley relay heats on Tuesday morning, in his fastest ever 100m breaststroke in just 59:03. To swim under the minute is a goal that he’s been working on for several years now.
In the final on Tuesday night, April 10, the men's team of Mitch Larkin, Jake Packard, Grant Irvine and Kyle Chalmers were victorious ahead of England and South Africa.
On April 5, Wilson won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke in 2:08:64, behind Scotland’s Ross Murdoch (2:08:32) and England’s James Wilby (2:08:05).
“This experience has certainly made me hungry to improve and work towards Tokyo 2020 and chase the dream of an Olympic medal,” the former Winmalee High School student said.
