Hundreds of people lined Macquarie Road in Springwood for the town’s annual Anzac Day march today [Wednesday, April 25].
Ex-servicemen and women led the parade at 10.30am before the service started at the cenotaph at 11am.
Students from local schools as well as representatives from community and sporting groups also took part in the march and service.
Local politicians attending included State Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle, Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman and Ward 3 Councillors Shae Foenander and Daniel Myles.
Students from local high schools acted as MCs and read prayers at the service. The Springwood Salvation Army Band provided musical accompaniment and played God Save the Queen, God Bless New Zealand and Advance Australia Fair.
Springwood RSL Sub-branch president Jim McKinnon ended the service by calling on all descendants of World War I servicemen and women to the cenotaph where the crowd gave them three cheers.
