Police investigations are continuing into an Anzac Day cliff fall at Wentworth Falls which left a 22-year-old woman with serious back injuries after she fell three metres.
An ambulance helicopter winched the woman to safety after she slipped and fell three metres while descending the popular Empress Canyon.
A Critical Care Paramedic and a doctor were part of the team on the NSW Ambulance and Toll Rescue Helicopter and they assisted in treating and stabilising the patient before she was winched out.
Blue Mountains Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer, said at about 11am on April 25 the woman was in a group of four completing the Empress Canyon trip.
“The victim was descending Empress Falls at the end of the canyon when the incident occurred. Whilst negotiating an overhung section of the falls, the victim has slipped and fallen about 3 metres, landing heavily on a small ledge on her back.”
Chief Inspector Almer said she sustained suspected lower back and pelvic injuries and was assisted to the bottom of the falls and emergency services were called.
“A short time later a Police Rescue and Ambulance ground team accessed the victim. She was provided pain relief, stabilised and placed in a stretcher. She was then moved a short distance to a suitable winch site.”
The woman was flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition and her current medical status is not known, he said.
