Springwood cyclist Amanda Spratt has secured another significant victory, taking out the four-day Emakumeen Bira race in the Basque region of Spain.
On May 22, the final day of racing, which features one of the hardest climbs in the Basque region, Spratt held off a chase from Italian rider Elisa Longo-Borghini to claim the stage victory by more than one minute and seal the overall race win.
“I honestly didn't expect to win it but I am super happy. I am really happy for the whole team, it is a great day for us,” Spratt said.
The victory in another World Tour race, follows a top result in April in the Ardennes Classics in the Netherlands and Belgium – three of the toughest and hilliest one-day races on the elite women’s road cycling world tour calendar.
The 30-year-old collected a second at Liege Bastogne Liege, third in the Amstel Gold Race and fifth in the Fleche Wallonne.
