One of Dr Satya Vir Singh’s greatest passions in life is gardening. The senior psychiatrist grows all kinds of fruits, vegetables and herbs through careful cultivation of his soil, keen observation of weather patterns and a gentle approach to his produce and flora.

His hobby doubles as a metaphor for the clinician’s kind and compassionate approach to his work in the treatment of mental health issues, and his approach to the many people that come to him seeking guidance and support as patients.

Dr Singh’s approach to treating his patients can be described as a holistic program – he embraces modern technology in diagnosing and treating of his patients, including CT, MRIs and PET Scan to exclude any underlying treatable causes of his patients current emotional state.

But Dr Singh also helps them through his natural, motivational approach, advising the benefits of balanced nutrition, yoga, meditation, mentorship, painting and other such relaxing pursuits. He knows a meaningful change in life can come from many different directions, and his compassionate approach has set him apart as an optimistic doctor who goes to any length to serve his patients.

Treatable causes of many mental health issues including dementia disorders became his passion after identifying a series of cases of dementia; those could be fully treated or helped in living a meaningful life in community. Prior to this, such cases were often admitted in nursing homes as lost causes with no possible treatment or hope for recovery.

His important work in dementia led to a National Commendation by BUPA Excellence in Patient Care Award, received in the United Kingdom in 2008.

When Dr Singh is not immersed in improving the lifestyle and livelihood of his patients, he enjoys music, Bollywood dancing, painting and particularly cooking. His passion for cooking led him to rank in the top 16 of the Britain’s Best Dish Cooking program and in 2013-14, his abstract art work was acclaimed in Tasmania and India.

Dr Singh has spent his life practicing privately and in public sectors, having been trained at the University Hospitals of Belfast, Liverpool, and Cambridge. He is also Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Dr Singh looks forward to giving back to his new Mountains community with his compassion and experience, to help residents live a full, happy and wholesome life free of the burden of mental illness.
