The next generation of Ultra-Trail Australia runners had their turn to pound the trail on the final day of the 2018 UTA festival of trail running.
A total of 473 kids aged from two to 14 signed up for the INJINJI 1km-4-Kids run that started and finished at Katoomba’s Scenic World over the weekend of May 19-20.
Indeed, some participants were so young they had to be accompanied by or even carried by parents who were often limping and grimacing from their own UTA adventures.
UTA’s Alina McMaster had the kids warming up doing the latest dance craze, The Floss, before they charged off.
Throughout the happy mayhem there were huge cheers for UTA100 runners continuing to cross the finish line after more than 24 hours on the trails.
Every child received a medal and a pair of INJINJI socks to help them on their trail running adventures, but the most popular item seemed to be the box of lollies they could help themselves to at the finish line.
“This is how rainbows are made,” declared the overcome finish-line announcer as hundreds of tiny trail runners streamed in. “I’m having a cuteness overload!”
