Assistant Minister for Disability Services Jane Prentice visited DARE Disability Support in Springwood on June 5.
Ms Prentice was greeted by a musical rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Bohemian Rhapsody by participants of DARE’s music program, with commenting that “even Freddie Mercury may have struggled to do better”.
The assistant minister then toured the Lawson Road site, spending time in the computer, sensory rooms, and art rooms.
Ms Prentice and her advisor Michael Dobbie were both presented with certificates of appreciation for their ongoing support by. In accepting the award she noted the fantastic work DARE undertakes in the local community, the quality of care provided by staff and happiness and enthusiasm of everyone she met.
Ms Prentice then toured DARE’s site in the industrial area in Scrivener Lane, viewing the packaging and assembly, book covering and wood working areas and using the opportunity to meet and talk with all the employees and understand the many challenges ahead for all disability services.
The visit concluded with a visit to DARE’s grounds and maintenance service.
DARE offers a wide range of services to people with disabilities in the Blue Mountains and surrounding communities.
Services include supported independent living, Australian Disability Enterprise, in home support, community and centre-based activities and co-ordination of support services.
