Award-winning Australian illustrator Stephen Michael King visited the Upper Blue Mountains on May 19 for a workshop at Pinerolo, the Children’s Book Cottage at Blackheath. King is one of Australia’s most successful illustrators and had plenty of advice to share on creating special picture books.
Stephen Michael King was at Pinerolo for three days and visited Blackheath Public School during his stay to discuss his craft with many students. He also took part in a Picture Books @ Pinerolo course and an open day at the cottage. Pinerolo’s Margaret Hamilton said: “He was so generous showing children how to draw and they each went away with an original drawing. Then he joined me on my radio program and we had what we thought was an interesting conversation.”
