The Blue Mountains has up to 50 free or low cost activities on offer for families, children and young people in the school holidays.
In the past it has been a challenge for families to keep track of activities on offer, but a revamped Blue Mountains Stronger Families Alliance website has all the information in one place. On the website usuers will find a school holiday calendar, listing the activities by age, location, cost and a link to each provider with more details and booking information.
The Stronger Families Alliance (SFA) is a coalition of government and non-government services, businesses and community groups supported by Blue Mountains City Council. The SFA supports the well-being of families, children and young people in the Blue Mountains. The aim of the co-ordinated school holiday calendar is to enable families to access information about local low cost school holiday activities that children, young people and families can enjoy.
“We want to give local families a feeling of confidence that there are lots of opportunities for things to do for kids during school holidays. Chances to build great family memories,” said MOCS manager Lyn Bevington part of the SFA.
The new Stronger Families Alliance website came into action for the April school holidays and part of the promotion was a competition for families to win prizes donated by SFA partners. First prize, a Scenic World Family Pass, was won by Tania Wallace and her young family from Blackheath.
Second prize, a Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum Family Pass, was won by grandparents Bruce and Louise Carr from Winmalee.
The third prize, a Blue Mountains City Aquatic Centre Family Pass was won by another Blackheath resident.
