Spanish guitarist Matthew Fagan will entertain at St Hilda’s Anglican Church in Katoomba on Friday, July 27.
His live show, Gypsy Fire, is performed with passion, renewed vigour and virtuosity featuring 10-string Spanish guitarist Fagan.
The program features classical music from Vivaldi to Bach and more, Celtic music including O’Carolan’s Celtic harp and lute music arranged for guitar, gypsy swing jazz a la Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt, Eastern European gypsy music and classical Spanish and Flamenco music featured on Fagan’s new album El Vito to be released later in the year.
Internationally acclaimed performer Fagan is one of Australia's most engaging, versatile, fluent and imaginative musicians.
He has toured with international celebrities including Natalie Cole, The Original Buena Vista Social Club, Billy Connolly, Shirley Bassey and Michael Crawford. A tour de force not to be missed.
His tour with Crawford provided him with a great opportunity to perform as a solo artist to some 60,000 people within five days, including the Adelaide Festival Centre and Melbourne Park.
He has also played to capacity audiences with Connolly at the Melbourne Concert Hall, the Capitol Theatre in Sydney and at the Sydney Opera House. He performed for Bassey with a full orchestra at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Fagan has also performed for his holiness the Dalai Lama at the Parliament of World Religions.
Connolly said of him: “Matthew is the best artist I have toured with.”
Ibrahim Ferrer from the Original Buena Vista Social Club said: "Matthew has a Latin soul and we love his playing so much that we want to take him back home to Cuba."
"A true artist," said the legendary Spanish flamenco guitarist Paco Pena.
“Melbourne’s Matthew Fagan … proves it here with a fascinating diversity of influences - Celtic of course, but also flamenco, classical and, perhaps, Australian … his own compositions shimmer with warmth and intelligence.” Pete Best, Sunday Herald Sun
“Matthew Fagan is a guitarist blessed with great charisma. Everything he does on the instrument draws you into his world. He is a virtuoso player, particularly in his arrangements of Spanish and Irish material, there is a fullness and idiomatic quality to the workmanship that indicate superior musicianship.” Dave Saemann, Fanfare magazine.
