About 60 people joined in a “fantastic joyful” recreation of the music video of British singer Kate Bush’s hit single Wuthering Heights at Woodford on Saturday, July 14.
Crimson-clad fans, young and old, performed the dance moves from the 1978 hit in Woodford Reserve behind Woodford Academy.
Wentworth Falls dance teacher Georgina Khoo organised this year’s event, the third annual celebration held in the Blue Mountains.
“The day went really well with approximately 60 dancers but it had a fantastic joyful energy,” she said.
Woodford Reserve was one of 12 places in Australia that hosted The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever out of 28 events around the globe.
An unlikely hit based on Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel of the same name, Wuthering Heights launched Bush’s career at just 19. She famously fought her record label to have it released as the first single off her debut album, The Kick Inside. It was a move that paid off: Wuthering Heights was the first UK number one hit written and performed by a female artist.
As well as marking the song’s 40th anniversary, this year’s event was a double celebration – Kate Bush turns 60 on July 30, a birthday she shares with the equally enigmatic Emily Bronte.
