George’s work is a cut above

After working for 17 years as a pre-school teacher and director of early childhood services in Sydney and the Blue Mountains, George Hempel opted for a career change, starting a small landscape business.

He quickly discovered, however, that his true passion was working with trees.

In 1998 he established The Tree Surgeon Professionals Pty Ltd in the Blue Mountains.

Twenty years later George, now a Level 5 Consulting Arborist with a Diploma of Arboriculture, still finds trees fascinating.

"Their size and variety highlights the wondrous diversity of nature, providing shade and habitat.

“They can be used to create a real wow factor in any garden.

“Trees can be used as feature specimens, as a border to define an area, and as a screen to create a peaceful refuge. They soften the urban landscape and can provide a sense of calm and tranquillity."

Today, The Tree Surgeon Professionals Pty Ltd consists of three Arborists and one trainee, with over 40 years combined experience. The knowledge, professionalism, and enthusiasm of the highly skilled team has made them one of the most successful tree surgery companies in the Blue Mountains.

"Sixty-five percent of our work is generated by either return customers or recommendations made by existing customers," George said.

George credits the business's success to two things.

Over the years George has noticed two main types of clients: those wishing to protect their trees and act as custodians of the trees for future generations, and those who decide their garden or their safety would be enhanced by the removal of a tree.

The Tree Surgeon Professionals Pty Ltd can help these clients with either an obligation free quote or a free consultancy service to help clients with tree identification, pest and disease assessment, and tips on establishing and maintaining tree health.

The Tree Surgeon Professionals Pty Ltd can also help with total tree removal and tree pruning services, including crown lifting and thinning, remedial pruning, dead wooding, storm damage repair, hedge trimming and fruit tree pruning.

All removed trees are recycled.

Each year The Tree Surgeon Professionals Pty Ltd donates tonnes of mulch and firewood to local residents for free, and some specialty woods are even upcycled by local millers and wood turners.
