Blue Mountains Police have called for drivers to take care on the roads and drive to the conditions after two cars rolled over in separate accidents on Thursday.
Emergency services were called to Valley Heights about 8.30pm on Thursday when a 67-year-old Emu Plains man hit the median strip barrier while travelling east on the Great Western Highway and rolled his car.
Inspector Peter Balatincz said the driver was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries and traffic was affected for about two hours while the recovery operation was completed.
“We urge drivers to drive to the conditions, especially on the cusp of snow and ice today [Friday],” Insp Balatincz said.
He said there was a lot of school holiday traffic returning home, and people on the road who weren’t used to driving on windy Mountains roads, where hazards like black ice may be present.
“If a speed sign says 60 or 80, it doesn’t mean you have to do the limit [you could do less]. Drive to the conditions and take caution,” Insp Balatincz said.
Earlier on Thursday, an 18-year-old driver rolled his car when driving on a dirt road at Medlow Bath.
