If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have broccoli in your morning tea and coffee, now you can try.
Developed by Kurrawong Organics in Kirkconnell, broccoli powder has been dubbed the new super food and can be easily added to other foods and drinks like soups, baby food, smoothies and bread, making it easier for time-poor adults to add nutritious vegetables into their diets.
Farmer Quentin Bland said the powder is made from broccoli that isn’t up to the standards of the big supermarkets chains because of damaged heads or stems.
“It’s a real super food, with broccoli being one the highest foods in antioxidants,” he said.
You can put it into smoothies or coffees and even pastas to help children eat healthy.

Broccoli is put through a mill and is diced into fine pieces, before it goes into a dehydration room, which keeps the broccoli under 50 degrees Celius so it doesn’t damage the enzymes.
It is kept in the dehydration room for roughly 14 hours before the dried broccoli is put through another mill which dices it to its powdered form.
Kurrawong Organics is also producing kale and Brussels sprout powder.
The broccoli powder has a shelf life of roughly 18 months.
The powder is produced on site at the Kurrawong Organics farm in Kirkconnell.
Farmer Quentin Bland said the ability to produce the powder at the farm gave his three sons Alexander, Tobias and Harry an opportunity to develop new revenue streams into the future.
“We’ve already got plans to increase the availability of the product by selling through contract manufacturers, retailers, as well as overseas distributors,” Mr Bland said.
Kurrawong Organics’ broccoli powder can be purchased at farmers markets in Sydney at Bondi, Carriageworks and Taylor Square and the Capital Region Farmers Markets in Canberra.
