When Leura Flight Lieutenant Colin Chiu suggested the town might be willing to support the upcoming Invictus Games, the response was an immediate “yes”.
So he and a crowd of locals gathered at the top end of the Mall on Saturday to hoist the Games flag.
Mr Chiu, defence force military liaison officer, said it would help publicise the Games, which involve injured servicemen and women.
“I thought it would be fantastic to see one of these flags flying to spread the word and get the local community involved,” he said.

Leura Village Association president, Piercarlo Cuneo, said the town was “extremely happy” to add its support to the Games, which will be held in Sydney in October.
Katoomba RSL sub-branch president, Brigitte Moseley, said the Games reflected the RSL philosophy of “the welfare of servicemen and women”.
“The Games also focus a lot more on the younger ones and it’s great to be able to engage with the younger service people,” she said.
The flag was up temporarily on Saturday but will flutter over the town for the duration of the Games.
