Springwood Country Club has fallen further behind in the Western Sydney Region Veteran Golfers Association (WSRVGA) 'Club of the Year' rankings, following the completion of the latest Inter-Club event at Leonay Golf Club on July 24.
Leonay Golf Club took out the team event on the day, with its team undoubtedly benefiting from home course knowledge, with Richmond Golf Club finishing third but subsequently moving seven points clear of second-placed Wallacia GC in the yearly rankings.
It has been a lean year for Springwood members at the inter-club events, with only Barry Beauvais (39th) and Chris Shorey (50th) currently in the top 50 player rankings.
Lady members Sue Evers and Elizabeth (Libby) Paynter were the only Springwood players to feature in the winner's list at Leonay, taking out the winner and runner-up prizes respectively.
One hundred and forty-two players had greeted the starter in frosty and cold conditions, although the weather would improve remarkably during the day, reminiscent of either spring or autumn.
The list of sponsors for the WSRVGA event included the Richmond Club, Guardian Funerals, Heartland Holden, OnePoint Health, Nepean River Belle, Drummond Golf, Property Central, Frasers Property, Nepean Valley Pure Water, Steric, Chem Tools and The 19th Golf Driving Range.
The next inter-club will be held at Wallacia Golf Club on August 31.
