A police operation is underway at Mt Riverview with reports a man has barricaded himself inside a home at Bunbinla Avenue and is threatening “self harm or harm to police,” a witness claims.
The Gazette understand Sydney police, including the Public Order and Riot Squad, is on the scene.
Some students from the nearby Mt Riverview Public School on Rusden Road were unable to return home as Bunbinla is in lock down. Police have barricaded that road, which comes off Rusden.
The incident is believed to have started at 2.15pm. Nearby residents told the Gazette, the dog squad, ambulance and general police were also in attendance.
Mt Riverview Public School principal Richard Giles said: “We had parents ringing up saying they couldn’t get out of their street because it had been locked down. Police asked us to hang on to those kids … but the parents organised for them to go to friends or other family.”
