A 52-year-old male was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition after suffering a medical episode while driving in Winmalee on Monday morning.
The man was trapped in the vehicle after it left the road, struck a tree and rolled over. A female passenger was able to free herself.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called to the scene about 8.20am, landing in nearby Summerhayes Park on Hawkesbury Rd. NSW Fire & Rescue and Police Rescue were on scene working to free the man, with NSW Ambulance crews providing initial treatment.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment to the man at the scene for head and chest injuries. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
Peeping tom
About 10.30pm on Sunday, a 64-year-old resident on Blaxland Rd, Wentworth Falls, was preparing to have a shower when she heard a man’s voice at the bathroom window. The victim contacted police who discovered the rear verandah covering had been unzipped, giving access to the rear bathroom window. Car ablaze
About 12.20am on Sunday, a car on Hawkesbury Rd, Winmalee, was set alight. Police said the perpetrator/s allegedly poured accelerant over a 2000 model white coloured Mitsubishi Lancer sedan and then set it alight. Passers by contacted emergency services including NSW Fire and Rescue and Police. The fire was extinguished but smoke had already entered the house, where a 72-year-old occupant suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Katoomba Hospital.
The fire caused structural damage to the carport, damage to the vehicle and smoke damage to the house. Anyone with information is asked to contact Springwood Police on 4751 0299 or Crime Stoppers.
Shadow boxing
About 8pm on Friday, a 40-year-old Faulconbridge man was at a licensed premise on Macquarie Road, Springwood. It is alleged he was using offensive language and threatened to knock someone out. When the man allegedly began shadow boxing, he was thrown out by security.
Police allege when he was walking along Macquarie Road he elbowed an 18-year-old youth in the face, cutting his lip. The man was arrested and charged with assault, offensive behaviour and failing to quit a licensed premise. He will appear at Penrith Local Court on September 13.
