The Valley Heights Rail Museum will open a new exhibition with the theme “Life and Death” as part of History Week.
Titled “The Final Journey: Making tracks to the last station”, the event will be held over the weekend of September 8-9 in partnership with the History Council of NSW.
Experts will hold a number of 30 minute presentations over the two days, which will be included in the museum’s regular admission price. This also includes 20 minute rides on the 120-year-old steam train.
Guest speakers from Rookwood Cemetery, Glenbrook Historical Society, the Tramway Society and the Museum, will explore various aspects of the theme in a surprising and respectful way. Some unusual railway history will be revealed with little known facts and personal stories taking visiters on the full journey, from “life” to “death”.
On loan exhibits and photographic displays will complement the event – and of course all the museum’s wonderful locomotives, carriages and wagons will be on show. There are two model rooms to provide extra excitement for the young (and not so young).
Visitors can also browse the shop and enjoy a tea, espresso coffee or cold drink and a “railway” pie at the cafe.
A detailed program for both days will be published on the museum’s website: www.valleyheightsrailmuseum.info. For more details call 4751 4638 and leave a message.
