Katoomba High School has been named the Sydney region joint winner in the Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge and is now in the running for a national award.
The student-led production of Lord of the Flies was a hit among judges when performed at the Sydney Secondary Awards Night on September 10 at NIDA Theatres.
Thirty students were involved in the production, from years 7 to 11.
The production also took out the Best Adapted Story Award and received recognition for an excellent lead cast.
Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College was the other winner, for their interpretation of The Rabbits, John Marsden’s picture book depicting an abstract interpretation of the colonisation of Australia and its social impact.
The national Story of the Year Award will be announced on October 17.
A national panel will review performance videos from the Story of the Year nominees and refer to comments from the awards night panel judges to make their decision.
