A 29-year-old rock climber from the ACT was rescued by helicopter over the weekend after an accident at Bell.
Emergency services were called to Duck Wall at Bell on the evening of Saturday, September 29, after the climber fell eight metres, sustaining back, rib and shoulder injuries.
The climber was assessed by paramedics, made comfortable for the night and winched out by ambulance helicopter the next morning.
Thefts from cars
Over the weekend of September 22-23, 14 thefts from motor vehicles were reported to police. Most of the offences took place in the Upper Mountains; in Leura and Wentworth Falls.
“Police once again urge the public to ensure the their vehicles are parked in a secure location, that all valuables are removed from vehicle and that vehicles remain locked at all times,” said Blue Mountains Police Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer.
About 7am on September 23, a handbag was stolen from a vehicle in Leura Cascades carpark. A Caucasian male in his mid 20s, about 1.8m tall, skinny build, wearing jeans and a grey top and a pink/red cap, was seen by a witness to smash the two rear windows of the vehicle before leaning in and stealing the handbag. The man drove away in a 2007 Black Volkswagen sedan reported stolen on September 7.
Shoplifting
A police operation targeting shoplifting in Katoomba saw six infringement notices handed out.
The operation took place at Coles, Woolworths, Big W and Target on September 19.
A Wentworth Falls man, aged 83, two Katomba men and a woman, aged 33, 32 and 40 respectively, a Leumeah man, aged 28, and a Leura man, 66, received criminal infringement notices and were banned from all Coles stores for 12 months.
A 16-year-old Katoomba youth was was found with stolen goods and a clear bag with what is believed to be cannabis, and investigations continue into this matter.
Police chase
A driver on his P1 plates, seen driving dangerously at Wentworth Falls, and whose vehicle was clocked travelling at 140km/h through Agnes Banks, has been arrested after allegedly ramming a police car in Bankstown on September 20.
“About 9.30am, the RAV 4 was allegedly driving in a dangerous manner on the Great Western Hwy, Wentworth Falls, and another police pursuit was initiated; however, it was also terminated,” police said.
A 33-year-old man was arrested in Belmore, and allegedly failed a drug test, police said. He appeared before Burwood Local Court on September 21 on numerous charges.
