The 54th Leura Gardens Festival took place over two long weekends recently: Saturday, September 29 to Monday, October 1; and Friday, October 5 to Sunday, October 7.
The beautiful cold-climate gardens offered a wide range of styles and sizes to provide food for thought and inspiration for all gardeners.
President, Brooke Broughton, said that since its inception the festival has raised $2.9 million to purchase equipment for the Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital and to assist other local health-related organisations.
The funds raised have resulted in the hospital being one of the best equipped for its size in the state. This year festival funds have enabled the hospital to renovate and refurbish five existing staff rooms to provide an excellent outpatient centre and to purchase an ultrasound machine, a lung function box and a colposcope for gynaecology.
In 2017 $6000 was donated to Greystanes Disability Services towards the purchase of a new wheelchair-accessible car to transport Greystanes’ clients.
In addition, $6000 was donated to the Blue Mountains Health Trust to fund a scholarship, $6000 was donated to Cancer Wellness Support to provide ongoing support and $6000 was donated to Can Assist Blue Mountains Branch to also provide ongoing support.
