The disgruntled customers of the Blackheath branch of the Commonwealth Bank have clearly made known their disappointment at the branch closure.
So much so that the bank will put on a bus to drive people to the Katoomba branch.
Every pension Thursday (starting 9.30am tomorrow), a bus will drive the 12 kilometres from Blackheath to Katoomba, running on a loop until 1pm.
A bank spokeswoman said it was an unusual corporate response.
“It isn’t common. The only one I’m aware of is that it occurred once when there was a few kilometres [to the nearest open branch],” she said.
She believed the decision was a response to hearing from many disappointed customers.
The free bus will run for three months after which the bank will assess the level of demand.
In the meantime, a map on the door of the closed branch points customers to Katoomba but doesn’t name the street the branch is in (Katoomba St). Rather it names Valley Road, Megalong St, Leura Mall, Scott Ave and, rather bizarrely, Blaxland Road, which is in Wentworth Falls more than seven kilometres away.
