A 2.4 magnitude earthquake hit an area between Katoomba and Jenolan at 3.38pm on Saturday, October 13 according to GeoScience Australia.
The earthquake tremor was three kilometres deep and many people took to social media when they felt and heard the tremor.
The Wombat Protection Society posted to their Twitter “We felt a very definite shake and a low level boom.”
Reports state that residents in surrounding areas including Leura, Wentworth Falls, Hartley, Blackheath and Medlow Bath felt weak to moderate shaking and in some cases a loud bang described as sounding like thunder.
