Fine weather is forecast but it doesn’t really matter up the top of the Mountains: Blackheath’s annual Rhodo Festival goes ahead, rain, hail or snow.
Rhodo Day is on Saturday, November 3. It’s the 66th annual festival, an event which started in 1953 to raise funds to build the community hall.
Today it’s a day of fun, with stalls, music and rides.
The stalls are in The Gardens (which fronts the highway opposite the station), where there will also be a jumping castle and face painting.
Along Gardiner Crescent there’s a wide selection of food stalls, everything from the Rotary BBQ to the Mr Whippy van.
As always, the popular showbag truck is parked at the bottom of Gardiner Crescent.
Govetts Leap Road is closed between the highway and Wentworth St to accommodate the climbing wall, bungee jump and teacup and saucer rides. The princess will be crowned in the large marquee at 10.30am, followed by music and entertainment all day.
One of the highlights of the day is the grand parade, which starts at 11.30am at Leichhardt St and marches down Wentworth St to The Gardens.
Don’t forget the art show in the community hall. It’s the 50th anniversary show and features more than 180 artworks, from the tiny to the large-scale, and most are for sale. Entry is $2.
With wood chopping at the Ivanhoe, coal shovelling and roof bolting at the Gardners Inn and the festival of flowers at St Aidans – there’s truly something for everyone.
