Rehearsals are well underway for Blaxland High School’s production Footloose.
The musical’s director, music teacher David Kalman, has promised a fun, entertaining, high-energy show.
He says there will be lots of crowd favourites to sing along to, including Can You Find It In Your Heart, Let’s Hear It For The Boy, Footloose and Almost Paradise.
With a double cast and crew, there are 150 students involved in the production, the fifth musical Mr Kalman has directed.
Often members of the community will go and see the show twice with a double cast, Mr Kalman said.
“It’s the opportunity to see their kids and other kids in that role,” Mr Kalman said.
Rehearsals started early this year, but the past term they’ve really cranked up.
The set includes 80s iconography such as boomboxes and famous artists from the period, and the students will have the 80s hair and costuming down to a tee.
Footloose is based on a 1984 film that tells the story of Ren McCormack, played in the film by Kevin Bacon, an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town where, as a result of the efforts of a local minister, dancing and rock music have been banned.
Students Luke Zoglemeyer and Bailey Wootton will take on the lead role of Ren, and his love interest Ariel will be played by Willow Waizer and Jessie Mitchell. Lamar Lockhart-Smith takes on Ren’s offsider Willard, and in his final year at the school, Riley Glen has been cast as Reverend Moore.
A milestone movie for many – just like Grease and Dirty Dancing – Mr Kalman promises it will be “fun for all the ages.”
Footloose will be performed from November 29 to December 8 at the school. Tickets at: https://www.trybooking.com/YMEY.
