Leura author Mike Williams and Sydney researcher Damien Nott share a fascination for unusual aerial phenomena, also known as UFOs.
Mr Nott’s interest was piqued by some personal sightings of strange lights, notably recurring above the family home in 2013; Mr Williams’s was spurred by a fascination with the local library’s extensive collection of UFO books, and driven by a desire to see if there was truth to the stories.
Their paths crossed five years ago when Mr Nott’s story cropped up in The Sydney Morning Herald, and Mr Williams travelled out to Dunedoo to meet him. They struck up a friendship and later travelled to Taree together to follow up on further reports. It was there they witnessed and filmed “some extraordinary lights”.
“I’ve had a number of very strange experiences,” Mr Nott said. “And I’ve filmed hundreds of strange lights in the sky. Now I want to share what I’ve seen and discovered.”
Mr Nott has been the subject of a documentary, Australien Skies (2015), and is writing a book about his experiences. The pair will share some never before seen video footage and photographs.
Mr Williams has spent 30 years looking into unusual phenomena in Australia and overseas, including lengthy stints investigating reports of strange lights in the Tanami Desert and chasing ‘Min Min Lights’ in outback Queensland.
“The phenomena is not only stranger than we imagine, it’s stranger than we can imagine,” Mr Williams said.
They will present a talk on their combined 40 years’ of research and experiences called ‘UFOria in the Blue Mountains’, exploring the strange world of UFOs and, by extension, the paranormal.
The event is on Sunday, November 18 from 1pm at the Blue Labryinth Bush Retreat in Woodford. Bookings at https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=436302
