National Trust (NSW) President, Brian Powyer, was the special guest at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Trust’s Blue Mountain Branch held at Woodford Academy on Monday, November 12.
Mr Powyer said that his visit provided an important opportunity to learn how the Trust could better serve and meet the needs of its members as well as hearing about the work of the branch in promoting heritage conservation, advocacy and education at the local level.
Local branch chairman, Rod Stowe, said it was pleasing that Mr Powyer had found time in his busy schedule to spend time with Trust members in the Blue Mountains.
Mr Stowe noted that Mr Powyer had been an active member of the National Trust for over three decades and was the first president in the organisation’s 73 year history to come from western Sydney.
“Brian is very familiar with our district and the three National Trust properties that we support in the mountains, namely Everglades House and Gardens at Leura, Norman Lindsay Gallery at Springwood and Woodford Academy,” Mr Stowe said.
Mr Powyer concluded his Blue Mountains visit by observing that the area was fortunate to have a strong National Trust branch, comprising capable and dedicated members and volunteers who were vigilant in advocating for conservation of the region’s rich built, cultural and natural heritage.
