Springwood Acoustic Club will welcome special guest Jack Pledge to their next meeting on Thursday, November 22 from 8pm at the Presbyterian Church, Large Hall, Macquarie Road, Springwood. The award-winning singer-songwriter is an expatriate Texan who has lived here for the last 20 years. He has appeared with numerous American artists including Charlie Pride and Jerry Jeff Walker as well as Australians Anne Kirkpatrick, Reg Lindsay, Lucky Starr and Lonnie Lee and is a regular feature at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. The meeting will also include the normal round robin format of singing, poetry or just telling a yarn. Patrons are welcome to participate or come along and listen. HOSPITAL SUPPORT
Springwood's 32-bed public hospital admitted its first patient 42 years ago after two decades of campaigning by the community, spearheaded by the Springwood hospital auxiliary. Set in garden grounds, the non-emergency hospital is part of the Nepean-Blue Mountains local health district. Community support is as strong as ever with the hospital auxiliary meeting every fourth Tuesday (except December) in the cottage in the grounds in Huntley Grange Rd at 9.45am. Next meeting is on Tuesday, November 27. All welcome.
EXPLORE SYMBOLISM
The Australian Gnostic Association Blue Mountains will hold their final talk for the year on Friday, November 30 from 7pm-9pm at Katoomba Community Centre, 81-83 Katoomba Street, Katoomba. The subject will be “Unveiling the Hidden Symbols of Christmas”. You will learn about the symbolic and real meaning of the Christmas tree and Santa and the true symbolism of Christmas. FAITH FORUM
Whatever your beliefs the Catholic Church is looking for your help on how it should move into the future. A forum on “Roles for Women in the Church” will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church hall, Wentworth Street, Blackheath on Sunday, December 2 from 11am. Ideas and suggestions that come out of the forum, together with any suggestions individually submitted, will form part of Blackheath’s contribution towards the agenda of the Plenary Council in 2020. The first such council in 80 years, it will involve the entire Australian Church and the broader community as it shapes the course of the future church. Details: plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au.

Glenbrook CWA held their annual general meeting last month at the Early Childhood Centre in Glenbrook. Margaret Pope from Penrith branch chaired the meeting and the election of office bearers took place. Committee members are president Elvie Murphy, vice presidents Judy Vandervelden and Jeanette Anderson, secretary Robyn Scheinflug, social secretary Jenny Roth, treasurer Laurel Anthony, international officer Jeanette Anderson, cultural officer Sandra O'Meara, handicraft officer Noreen Taylor, agricultural environmental officer Joy Rosier, land cookery officer Michele Templeton and publicity officer Judy Vandervelden. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 1pm. Meetings are held at the Early Childhood Centre, Glenbrook on the second Wednesday of the month. LEARN SALSA
Salsa Blue Mountains offers classes for beginners and intermediate dancers on Wednesday nights at Junction 142, Katoomba Street, Katoomba. The beginners four-week course includes basic footwork and timing, basic turns and partner work while the intermediate course includes basics refresher, usable dance patterns, musicality and style.
