The Friends of the Mechanics Institute are back in action to organise concerts at the beloved Lawson venue.
Tickets are already on sale for a return by international classical guitar trio Ralph Towner, Wolfgang Muthspiel and Slava Grigoryan on February 16. Tickets cost $80.
But the concert season presented by the new Friends of the Mechanics Institute committee, also known as the Friends, starts on Saturday, December 1, with a fundraiser to support future shows.
Doors will open at 2.30pm for eight hours of music by diverse Blue Mountains performers: Blues band the Quagmires; singer, guitarist and drummer Willem Roorda; blues harmonica player Rob Thompson with guitarist Ian Host; Jeff Wilson, James Roy and Matt Skeletor; the Scarab Beatles; Jim Jarvis and friends; Mid-Mountains favourites Soular Spill; multicultural performer and storyteller Phil Voysey; Matt Tonks, always popular at festivals; and dance-rock band Hail Clive.
Tickets cost $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners and $10 for teenagers aged 15-18. Children are admitted free.
On Wednesday, December 19, will be cellist and songwriter Monique Clare with percussionist Caleb Colledge. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets $20.
The Friends are also seeking new members and volunteers to help backstage, cook and serve food at events, help as parking attendants, photograph events and more.
