Dozens of world class artists have been selected to exhibit at Sculpture at Scenic World 2019, rising above a competitive field to showcase their talents in Australia’s most iconic outdoor rainforest exhibition.
Twenty-nine artists were shortlisted from more than 100 submissions by panel members including UNSW’s Deputy Dean for Art and Design, Professor Marie Sierra; independent curator, Axel Arnott; and Blue Mountains-based artist Heidi Axelsen.
A total of 26 artworks will be showcased during Sculpture at Scenic World from April 12 to May 12, including works from 19 NSW artists, two international artists, and four artists from the Blue Mountains.
All exhibiting artists will go in the running for the coveted $20,000 Scenic World major award, in addition to the $5000 artist peer award, the $2000 Scenic World staff’s choice award, and the $1000 Carrington Hotel people’s choice prize.
Artworks will also be selected for the $1000 Blue Mountains Cultural Centre exhibition opportunity and the $3000 environmental prize.
Sculpture at Scenic World exhibition curator Justin Morrissey commended all shortlisted artists for presenting artistic visions that push the boundaries of their creative practice.
“Sculpture at Scenic World’s position on a site of rich natural beauty and cultural significance continues to be a major drawcard for artists who are willing to test their limits among the pristine rainforest setting,” he said.
“It is a privilege to see Sculpture at Scenic World’s evolution continue as the exhibition celebrates its eighth year in 2019 and we look forward to seeing a high calibre of works take shape among the natural environment.”
Welcoming more than 100,000 visitors each year, Sculpture at Scenic World is recognised as a Flagship Event under the NSW Government’s regional events program for its proven success to attract visitors to the Blue Mountains.
The exhibition will again feature an extensive public program in 2019, with details to be released in the coming months.
