There were two extra sets of boots on the Blue Mountains beat this week as the Springwood station welcomed probationary constables Hannah Moffat and Tiarne Kerr to the ranks.
Const Moffat has a law degree behind her, and joined the police force as part of a police prosecutor program.
At 29, she’s worked at NSW Fair Trading, and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal as an advocate.
Const Kerr grew up in Penrith and could be familiar to many Mountains residents as she was the manager at Blaxland McDonald’s for several years.
The 21-year-old has a Bachelor of Policing degree and joined the force for the variety the job offers.
“It’s the constant change, nothing is ever the same and you don’t have to sit in an office every day. And being involved with the community,” she said.
The duo were among 257 new probationary constables joining the NSW police force – 168 men and 89 women – who will undergo 12 months on-the-job training and distance education policing studies.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller welcomed the new recruits on board, saying it was a huge milestone for the recruits who had all worked extremely hard to get to this point.
“They have already proven themselves physically and academically to reach this point and from Monday [December 10] they will experience the reward of serving the community as a police officer,” he said.
