Nicole Kidman has become the first actress nominated for an international AACTA award for both best lead and best supporting actor categories in the same year.
It follows her recent record-breaking AACTA win in Sydney for Boy Erased, where she became the first actress to consecutively take home the prize for best support after winning it for Lion the previous year.
Australian directors Joel Edgerton and Warwick Thornton are also up for nominations after Thornton cleaned up at the domestic awards receiving six trophies including best film for Sweet Country.
Thornton faces tough competition in the best direction category against Bradley Cooper's directorial debut A Star Is Born.
The musical drama also starring Cooper and Lady Gaga is leading the charge with five nominations, followed closely by the Dick Cheney biopic Vice with four.
BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and Roma are also up for the best film prize.
Other Australians nominated for an 'Aussie Oscar' include Hugh Jackman and Toni Collette for best lead in The Front Runner and Hereditary respectively.
Margot Robbie follows her best actress win last year for I, Tonya with another nomination this year for best support in Mary Queen of Scots.
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television international award ceremony will be held on January 4 in Los Angeles.
