Christmas has come early for the people of Springwood, with the opening of the town’s new Service NSW Centre on Friday, December 14.
“Service NSW provides the services which matter to people’s lives, whether it’s their first vehicle registration or a Seniors Card,” said NSW Upper House Liberal MP Shayne Mallard, who visited the centre with Blue Mountains Liberal candidate Owen Laffin on Monday.
“The list of services doesn’t stop there – people can also lodge a medical change of conditions for driver licences and apply for a birth, death or marriage certificate.”
Blue Mountains Labor MP Trish Doyle – who campaigned to retain motor registry services in Springwood in 2015 when there was doubt surrounding their future – welcomed the new centre.
“For many years, the NSW Government refused to commit to maintaining a physical presence in the Lower Mountains and had threatened to shutter the RMS office without replacing it with a full-blown Service NSW equivalent,” she said.
“This would have forced people down to Penrith for routine matters. I am pleased to see that my advocacy, plus the vocal opposition within the community to the Liberals’ service cuts, has protected this vital government service right here in the Lower Mountains.”
