The NSW Ombudsman is holding a formal inquiry into SafeWork NSW’s management of asbestos in the Blue Mountains.
“Our office has received complaints about the management of possible asbestos in public buildings in the Blue Mountains City Council area,” the NSW Ombudsman stated in its annual report.
“The complaints were made by the Blue Mountains City Council about the conduct of SafeWork NSW.
“Having reviewed the information we have received and considered the overriding public interest, we started a formal investigation into a number of related issues.”
The investigation was still ongoing when the Ombudsman released its annual report at the end of October.
A spokeswoman for the NSW Ombudsman said she could not discuss specifics in more detail due to secrecy provisions in the Ombudsman Act.
