Celebrating seniors in the Blue Mountains

Older people in the Blue Mountains will be celebrated in February, with the annual Blue Mountains Seniors Recognition Awards and a month-long program of activities.

“The NSW Seniors Festival (formerly Seniors Week) is the largest festival for seniors in the southern hemisphere,” said Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill.

“To acknowledge the remarkable contributions our local seniors make to our Blue Mountains community, a program of events for the month of February has been put together.”

The theme for 2019 focuses on ‘Love your life’. It is about promoting inclusive communities by providing a range of opportunities for seniors to make new friends, get together with old friends and try new things.

“I would like to acknowledge the hard work of contributing Blue Mountains community organisations and businesses in developing this extensive program of events,” said Cr Greenhill.

“The Seniors Festival also provides an opportunity to promote a better understanding about seniors and the value they add to our lives.”

The annual Blue Mountains Seniors Recognition Awards, to be held on February 26, are an important part of the annual festival. The awards acknowledge the contribution that individuals and organisations have made to seniors in our community.

Nominations for the 2019 Seniors Week Recognition Awards close on Monday, February 11.  Nominate someone or download the Seniors Festival Program for more information.
