Blue Mountains Pro Wrestling returns bigger and better than before, starting at the Oberon Show on Saturday, February 9.
Almost three years have passed since the final event in Blackheath and now the promoters feel it's the right time to bring all the action and drama of live pro wrestling back to the mountains.
Marek Indyka, one of the promoters said: “We've been out of action for almost three years and we feel now is the right time to come back and make another go of it. Over the last three years there's been an uprise in independent wrestling across the country and with more local and surrounding talent emerging, combined with new venues and areas, we can deliver a great entertainment product for the Blue Mountains.
“A lot of our wrestlers have gone on to compete internationally during our absence. Our first World Heritage champion, Robbie Eagles, has hit the big stage in Japan wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Shazza McKenzie has appeared on WWE NXT TV, Lithgow's ‘Full Force’ Mat Rogers has appeared for WWE affiliated companies in the US, with Keegan and Kasai returning from America and Japan.”
Fans can expect to see a lot of new faces including local Katoomba wrestler Jorg Wolfgang. Wolfgang started out setting up the ring back in 2014 and has now gone on to train with Penrith based schools Australian Pro Wrestling gym and Wrestle Strong Dojo.
Wolfgang told the Gazette: “I've been involved with Blue Mountains Pro since 2014, and while there were wrestlers from Lithgow, Hartley and Penrith, it irked me that there were no ‘true’ local wrestlers, only crew
“Katoomba is my home and it’s very special to me (where else can a Viking walk down the street and no one blinks an eye?) so I decided to start training with the goal of representing my home.
“On February 9 at Oberon I get to achieve that goal when I face the highly-accomplished Keegan. With all of his experience it will definitely be a challenge, but, I'm Viking. I may not know how I'm going to win, I just know I'm not going to lose.”
Blue Mountains Pro Wrestling is at the Oberon show from 11am, followed up by a double header of matches at Ironfest in Lithgow on April 27 and28.
For the first time pro wrestling comes to Springwood later in the year. Katoomba and Richmond events are also in the works.
