It will be an illustrious evening of breathtaking strings and soprano.
On Saturday, February 23, the Orava Quartet, one of the most electrifying string quartets of its generation, will be joined at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre by one of Australasia’s most celebrated operatic and concert artists, Greta Bradman.
Founded in 2007 by brothers Daniel (violin) and Karol Kowalik (cello), Thomas Chawner (viola) and joined in 2011 by David Dalseno (violin), the Orava Quartet has earned a solid reputation and a devoted following for their unique sound and awe-inspiring intensity.
The music program will feature classical string greats from composers Haydn, Rachmaninov, Respighi, the Dvorak 'American' String Quartet and Australian composer Paul Stanhope’s Sea Chronicles.
Greta Bradman will perform with the quartet in the Stanhope, Respighi and Rachmaninov selection of works.
Signed to Universal Music Australia and selected by Deutsche Grammophon Australia for the label’s historic, first ever recording release in 2018, Orava has performed throughout North America, the UAE and Asia. In Australia, the quartet has made an impressive and rapid rise to national attention, performing regularly at major classical and arts festivals and hailed by The Australian as “the future of Australian chamber music.”
Greta Bradman has also risen to classical fame. Her 2015 debut album for Decca Classics, My Hero (conductor Richard Bonynge, English Chamber Orchestra), received five-star reviews and topped the classical and classical crossover ARIA charts for several months.
Her latest album, Home (conductor Luke Dollman, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra), was also nominated for a 2018 ARIA Fine Arts award.
The show is on Saturday, February 23 at 7.30pm. There will be a pre-show talk at 6.45pm prior to the performance. In addition, there will be a post-show meet and greet with the artists and merchandise available for purchase on the day.
